Overview

White Oak Pastures is a sixth-generation family farm in Bluffton, Georgia that has become one of the most respected names in regenerative agriculture. Their cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, raised on native pasture without antibiotics or added hormones.

Full Review

White Oak Pastures began in 1866 when James Edward Harris established a conventional farm. In 1995, Will Harris, the great-great-grandson of the founder, made a radical decision to transition from conventional industrial farming to a regenerative, multi-species land management model. Today the farm spans over 3,200 acres of south Georgia pasture and raises cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese. The beef is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished on native pastures that have never been sprayed with synthetic chemicals.

White Oak Pastures operates its own USDA-inspected slaughter facility on the farm, ensuring the most humane handling possible and eliminating the stress of long-distance transport. The farm has been certified as carbon negative by General Mills, meaning it sequesters more carbon than it emits, a remarkable achievement that has drawn international attention. Cuts are available direct-to-consumer via their website and through select retailers nationwide.

Our Editorial Assessment

GrassFed Source Editorial Team — based on certifications, published farming practices, and aggregated customer feedback. We do not accept payment for reviews or assessments.

White Oak Pastures is one of the most independently verified operations in the grass-fed market. The carbon-negative certification — independently validated by General Mills, a credible third party with no financial motive to inflate the claim — is genuinely rare. On-farm USDA-inspected slaughter eliminates long-distance transport stress, which is a meaningful animal welfare distinction that most brands don't address. The certification stack (AWA, Certified Regenerative by AGW, Non-GMO, USDA Process Verified) is among the strongest in the industry. Premium pricing reflects the cost of running all of this on a single family-owned operation. The main practical limitation is limited retail presence — direct-to-consumer ordering is the primary channel. Our assessment is based on their published certifications, publicly available third-party audit documentation, and aggregated customer feedback across platforms.
